UTILIZE

design & implementation by Theekshi

With a goal to highlight IKEA’s fall collection, HÖSTKVÄLL which means “autumn evening” in Swedish, a small bedroom with clever storage solutions was designed.

The bedroom was created for a middle-aged couple from Morocco, both with 9-5 office jobs. The couple recently moved to Qatar and are just beginning to adapt to a new lifestyle. Even if a small space maybe considered temporary, the best and most functional solutions are applied to this room to make it relaxing and cozy.

With the bedroom being made to support the fall collection, colors such as a mustard yellow, beige and orange-brown paint, textiles and accessories were chosen. The grey traditional furniture from the HAUGA family were chosen as a neutral color which would support other colors and patterns. Smaller black metal furniture, shelf brackets, hooks, lights and mirrors were added for an industrial vibe. Accessories with natural material were also added to the mix.

The furniture is laid out in such a way that the couple is easily able move around and store their belongings. Since this is a small room, vertical space along the walls are used well for wall shelves, a full length mirror, hooks on the wall and boxes stored on top of the wardrobe. A chest of drawer has been placed on one side of the bed instead of a bedside table to be used for the same purpose. The desk has been placed with a mirror on top to be doubled up as a dresser. With the space of the room being quite limited, the sliding doors on the wardrobe becomes quite a solution.
